TRAFFIC

The Traffic section administers the traffic control on all of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s campuses, through patrols and enforcement.

The section issues vehicle permits to staff, students and third parties needing to use the parking areas on the University campuses.


Entry and Exit - Staff & Students: (Edgewood, Howard College & Westville Campuses)

In respect to staff and students, entry and exit is on the display of a valid parking permit and display of a valid UKZN identity card.

Entry and Exit - Staff & Students: (Nelson Mandela School of Medicine & Pietermaritburg Campuses)

In respect to staff and students, entry and exit is on the display of a valid parking permit and swiping of a valid UKZN identity card at the electronic gates.

Entry and Exit - Visitor's: (Edgewood, Howard College, Nelson Mandela School of Medicine & Westville Campuses)

In respect of visitors entering the campuses, the signature of the driver at the entry boom gate and on receipt of a visitor's card, and exiting on the surrender of the visitor's card.

Entry and Exit - Visitor's: (Pietermaritzburg Campuses)

In respect of visitors entering the campuses, either pre-arranged clearance from the RMS control room via the intercom located at the vehicle entry boom gate, or the signature of the driver by a security guard when the guard is on duty at the vehicle entry boom gate


Parking areas are open to all staff, students, third parties and visitors of the University, unless otherwise specifically marked and designated as a reserved area. A parking permit is required for all staff (permanent / contract), students, contractors and departmental vehicles.

Students must park their vehicles in the designated student parking areas, except that a student may use the staff unreserved parking areas from 16h45 to 06h30 Monday to Friday, and at any time over weekends and public holidays.

Any person who parks a vehicle on campus shall be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is correctly and properly parked.

Any person operating a motor vehicle on campus shall obey all applicable laws and University regulations. A traffic officer may cite any person who violates traffic or parking regulations on campus.

The Traffic section administers the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s parking policy.
