The University of KwaZulu-Natal mandates that all staff (permanent and fixed-term), students, contractors, and tenants must possess a valid UKZN access card.

Your UKZN access card and Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP – more info) control entry to the University campuses, buildings, departments, and facilities. You are required to carry your access card at all times.

Report lost or stolen cards IMMEDIATELY to RMS Security or the ID Card Office to prevent unauthorized use. Ensure your VEP is clearly displayed on your vehicle’s windshield.

Be ready to present your UKZN access card to RMS Security or Library staff upon request. Other University personnel may also request to see your card in areas such as labs, exam venues, or sports facilities. Refusal to identify yourself is not permitted.

Misuse of your access card can result in disciplinary action or immediate confiscation.

The following actions constitute misuse:

• Allowing others access to or exit from any facility.
• Possessing more than one access card.
• Permitting others to use your card for any purpose other than verifying your details for official university reasons.
• Improperly storing the card, leading to damage.
