Due to the scarcity of parking on some campuses, RMS Security relies on the assistance of all staff, students, contractors and tenants to manage parking and traffic flow effectively. Please ensure that you only park on parking bays as indicated and that the parking bays for disabled persons are not used if you are not disabled. All undercover parking bays are reserved and allocated to specific staff or departments and some of the open areas on the five campuses.
Staff / Students / Contractors & Tenants
Vehicle entry and exit to the UKZN campuses is granted upon presentation of a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and a valid UKZN access card, which must be swiped. In the absence of these, individuals must manually sign in and out at the Access Control Points (ACP) on campus.
The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is an official disc, color-coded for easy identification, and is issued upon application at the ‘ID Card Office’ on each campus. These permits must be renewed annually and are to be displayed on the windscreen of any vehicle seeking entry to campus.
Entry to any University campus is at your own risk. The University accepts no responsibility for any damage or loss incurred while entering, leaving, or being on campus. No vehicle may enter or park on any University campus without a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP).
Due to limited and constrained parking space on each campus, the University does not guarantee the availability of parking for any individual entering a campus, at any time, or on any given day, and no such expectation should be held.
Unreserved parking bays are available on a first-come, first-served basis for staff, students, contractors, tenants, and visitors, within the designated parking areas for each group.
Vehicles may not be parked in areas that are not designated or controlled as parking spaces, nor in parking areas not designated for their specific use, or in reserved bays not allocated to them. Vehicle owners who disregard the signage will have their vehicles clamped and will be liable for the payment of a release fee.
All individuals must respect and comply with the instructions of Risk Management Services (RMS) regarding entry, exit, and parking on campus at all times.
To ensure safety and uphold the rights of all parking bay users, parking regulations will be consistently enforced, with warnings and/or fines issued for violations.
UKZN reserves the right to remove from campus or dispose of as scrap any vehicle that:
- Does not display a valid and up-to-date UKZN-issued Vehicle Entry Permit, or
- Has been abandoned or left parked continuously on any campus for more than three months.
Students must park their vehicles in the designated student parking areas on campuses, with the exception that a student may use the staff unreserved (not reserved) parking areas from 16h30 until 06h30 Monday to Friday, and at any time over weekends and public holidays.
Visitors / Deliveries & Others
Visitors, deliveries and other vehicle entry and exit to UKZN campuses, will be required to sign in and out at the Access Control Point on any campus.
