Vehicle Access

The RMS ID Card & Parking Permit office, administers the traffic control on all of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s campuses, through patrols and enforcement.

This office issues UKZN vehicle permits (VAP) to all Staff, Students, Departmental Vehicles and Contractors requiring access to or the use of the parking areas on the University campuses.

The Risk Management Services Traffic section administers the UKZN parking policy.


Vehicle Access - Staff / Students / Contractors

Access to UKZN Campuses is on the display of a valid UKZN parking permit and swiping of a valid UKZN identity card at the electronic booms.

Most of the parking areas available on the various campuses are open to all Staff, Students, Departmental and Contractor vehicles, unless otherwise specifically marked and designated as a reserved area. These reserved areas are reserved for Staff who pay a monthly fee for these bays and therefore off-limits. All those who violate this, run the risk of being cited with a traffic ticket or wheel-clamp.

A valid UKZN parking permit is required for all Staff, Students, Departmental and Contractor vehicles.

All Staff, Students and Contractors who operate/parks a vehicle on campus shall be responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is correctly and properly parked, as well as obey all the applicable laws and University regulations. Traffic Officers may cite all those persons who violates traffic or parking regulations on any of the UKZN campuses.

Students must park their vehicles in the designated student parking areas on campuses, with the exception that a student may use the staff unreserved (not reserved) parking areas from 16h30 until 06h30 Monday to Friday, and at any time over weekends and public holidays.


Vehicle Access - Visitors

Visitors accessing the UKZN campuses, the Visitors Register must be completed by the driver of the vehicle upon entry and exit boom gates.

Most of the parking areas available on the various campuses are open to Visitors vehicles, unless otherwise specifically marked and designated to Staff or Students. All those who violate this, run the risk of being cited with a traffic ticket or wheel-clamp.

Visitors who operate/park a vehicle on campus shall be responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is correctly and properly parked, as well as obey all the applicable laws and University regulations.
